U.S. military reported that today’s storm of a central Baghdad district is the largest anti-terrorist invasion since the March 2003 operation.
About 500 Iraqi Security Force and U.S. militants participated in the operation in the al-Rasheed district at 9 am. local time.
The operation finished successfully with 65 suspected terrorists arrested. Only one Iraqi soldier was injured and no American accidents were reported.
The aim of the battling was to calm the insurrection headed by al-Qaeda linked terrorists Saddam Hussein’s Baathist regime supporters. Iraqi government officials report that the revolt wave has fortunately declined.
Those detained in today’s battling ``are suspected of committing numerous crimes and activities to include assassinations, beheadings, kidnapping, intimidation, and attacks against both Iraqi Security Forces and Coalition Forces,’’ Major Ross Coffman, operations officer for 4th Brigade Combat Team, said in the statement.
