IRS needs more money to secure state treasury
(by Helen Snow)

IRS needs more money to secure state treasury Revenue agents estimate the IRS loses almost $300 billion each year because of various illegal manipulations of taxpayers.

IRS Commissioner Mark Everson is working to close that gap. In order to put into practice all necessary measures he urges Congress to provide the agency with nearly $11 billion in the next few months.

On Thursday, Everson had to defend President Bush’s fiscal year 2006 budget request for the IRS in speech before a Senate subcommittee.

Everson promised to reduce costs and provide more back taxes with help of budget funds. He said the state have the billions lost each year in increasing fraudulent abuses conducted in the frameworks of charitable activities. However, the IRS failed to provide exact figures.

The Senate Finance Committee is in the process of investigating the abuses.
