Americans express their view of tax procedure: AP-Ipsos poll
(by Natali Novak)

Americans express their view of tax procedure: AP-Ipsos poll The AP-Ipsos poll taken for the Associated Press from April 4-6 found that 70 percent of Americans believe the federal taxes are too complicated.

A federal panel is authorised to collect information in the next few months in order to offer recommendations as to ways of simplifying tax forms. Possible ways to do it include reducing income tax rates, instituting a flat tax or elimination of tax deductions and credits.

However, 57 percent of surveyed people don’t like the flat tax approach stating that people with higher incomes should pay higher taxes. Most people also opposed the idea of tax deductions and credits elimination.

The Internal Revenue Service expects about a third of the 133 million income tax to return during the last two to three weeks, IRS spokesman Eric Smith said.
