No consensus reached over China arms embargo issue
(by Dr.Goldfinger)

No consensus reached over China arms embargo issue The European Union did not reach the consensus over the lifting arms embargo from China as some member countries say China has not reached an appropriate level of human rights protection so far that might allow the EU to lift the 15-year embargo.

The embargo was about to be lifted a month ago but met the fierce resistance from the US that claims lifting the embargo would ruin the world’s No.1 economy’s arms market.

The EU became more strict over the issue after the so-called «anti-secession» law adopted by China that allows it to use military forces in case Taiwan officially announces its independence from the mainland China.

Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden support the retaining the embargo on China while France and Germany claim the country has the right for second chance.
