Brown more popular as Labour Party chief, poll shows

The UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown is more popular as the head of the Labour Party than the Prime Minister Tony Blair, according to a poll released on Monday.

The Labour Party’s popularity stopped at 37%, down one point from the similar poll conducted last week, according to the NOP poll for The Independent newspaper. The Labour’s main rival Conservative Party received only 32%, the poll showed. The Liberal Democrats received 21%, the same results as they got last week.

The poll also showed that the majority of people would like to see the Treasury chancellor Gordon Brown as new chief of the Labour Party with the 48% of surveyed said they would give their voice for the Party if he was its chief.

About 30% of those surveyed said they trust Mr. Brown, while only 17% said that about Mr. Blair. Nearly 37% said they did not trust anybody.

The UK elections are scheduled for May 5. The Labour Party is widely predicted to continue ruling.
