North Korea confirmed its nuclear intentions
(by Helen Snow)

North Korea confirmed its nuclear intentions
It is the forth time North Korea has admitted it has shot down its nuclear reactor in order to retrieve fuel rods from it and obtain plutonium for the producing nuclear warheads and “strengthening of the deterrent forces”, North Korea’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the U.N. Hang Song Ryol said in an interview published on Wednesday.

The North Korean diplomat also added that the retrieval of fuel rods is only at the planning stage so far.

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency believes that North Korea had the materials to produce two to eight nuclear warheads. The current processing of fuel rods can provide Pyongyang with another six warheads.

Since last summer Pyongyang has been refusing to take part in the six-party talks on the settlement of the issue came after North Korea’s outfall from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The White House said on Monday it would consider the possibility for North Korea to enter the U.N. Security Council. His move is aimed to enable U.S. to put sanctions in case Pyongyang refuses to return to six-party talks on its nuclear program.

In its turn, North Korea stated that it prefers to hold talks not on the liquidation of its nuclear programme, but on multilateral “nuclear disarmament” in East Asia.
