Benedict to follow John Paul’s policy
(by Olivia Cohen)

Benedict to follow John Paul’s policy
Pope Benedict XVI is expected to follow the policy of his predecessor John Paul II in the consevative steps that dwindle hopes of reformists almost to nothing.

Faithful from developing countries that almost tripled during John Paul’s 26-year papacy were disappointed by the conclave decision that skipped all the pretendents from Africa and Asia.

The appointment of German cardinal Joseph Ratzinger with at least 77 out of 115 ballots did not surprise anyone as Ratzinger was the closest friend and devoted supporter of all John Paul did during his reign.

Benedict reappointed Cardinal Angelo Sodano, 77, as secretary of state, the position he held since 1990.

About 500,000 pilgrims are expected to arrive to the Vatican inauguration of Benedict scheduled for Sunday. This is the largest number of people since John Paul’s April 2 death.
