Berlusconi struggles second governmental life
(by Helen Snow)

Berlusconi struggles second governmental life Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi managed to form a new government in a hurried way, but remains to be in a fragile political position.

For the first time in his long political carier Mr. Berlusconi faced severe criticism against his governmental performance, as he was forced to resign Wednesday and form a new government with a new political program. The newly emerged cabinet is expected to pass a vote of confidence in Parliament later this week.

Mr. Berlusconi’s platform for government aimed to regain the voter confidence includes provisions about increasing spending power for families, reducing unemployment etc.

So, Mr. Berlusconi is facing hard challenges to realize all his pledges. The task becomes more difficult considering the Italy’s deficit spending.

In addition, some of the appointments by Mr. Berlusconi for the new cabinet have simply stirred up voters. For instance, Mr. Berlusconi assigned Giulio Tremonti as one of two deputy prime ministers just 10 months after Mr. Tremonti had been accused by the National Alliance of unsatisfied performance as a top manager of the Italian economy.
