The US President George W. Bush seems to be quite optimistic about his campaign over revamping Social Security despite growing signs of criticism both from officials and people.
Bush’s 60-day tour over the country in attempts to draw support for Social Security ends May 1. About 64% Americans now disapprove of Bush’s handling of Social Security, according to a poll conducted by ABC News-Washington Post.
``He made a strategic mistake talking about the accounts in isolation. If you have behind you `ownership’ as the banner, that’s not what people look at Social Security as being. They look at Social Security as a safety net,’’ said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
Bush will move to «the next phase» of his campaign after May 1, according to White House spokesman Scott McClellan. ``The president is going to continue to travel across the country,’’ McClellan said.
