Japanesse markets closed higher on technology shares

Japanesse markets closed higher on technology shares, after Applied Materials, the world’s largest producer of chip-making tools, reported a return to profit and forecast further growth after the close of U.S. trade.

The Nikkei 225 added 0.5% and closed at 10,774.26. The Topix index rose 0.5%, to 1,094.88.

Shares of Advantest, the world’s largest maker of chip testing equipment, rose 2%, shares of Tokyo Electron climbed 1%.

Shares of Canon rose 1% to Y5,080, shares of Toshiba climbed 1.3% to Y388.
